Getting to Know Your Client

Sometimes you will have clients who know exactly what they want; other times you'll have clients who just have a vague idea of where they would like to go. Your job as a travel consultant is to understand your clients, their needs and their personalities and to understand what they really want and need.

In this book, you'll learn how to conduct a "needs analysis." You'll consider factors such as the numbers and ages of the people traveling, and their budget. You'll also need to work out how adventurous your clients are. Will they be comfortable travelling independently in a country where they do not know the language? Will they eat the local cuisine? Will they be able to manage in a medical emergency? How physically fit are they and can they cope with the itinerary you'd like to plan for them? All of these factors—and more—will affect the travel products you sell them.

We'll also show you "tourist-generating" and "tourist-receiving" areas, and how they affect your business. Finally, you'll learn the two main traveler types, business and leisure, and how you can serve each one to make their trips as easy as possible. By the time you finish the course, you'll be a pro at getting to know your clients.
